Apollo 13 remembered, and Political Correctness

Apollo 13 Mission Control

Apollo 13 Mission Control

It’s been 40 years since Apollo 13, and I’ve followed some of the news media coverage, such as this week’s Dateline NBC.  I don’t remember Apollo 13 (too young at the time), but have enjoyed the 1995 movie and am now very familiar with the story.  Today, April 13, was the day that the disaster on board the craft occurred.

But here is one important point brought out by the contrast of life then versus now:  diversity (as in racial or gender) of itself does not provide any special advantages, any special talents, to a group working on a project.  I know this must be a terrible shock to the leftist university professors and “enlightened” business workers who insist that diversity is a noble virtue because it brings together people of different perspectives and backgrounds, and thus greater creativity and greater potential to achieve great projects.

Case in point:

  • The U.S. race to the moon was achieved by a very non-diverse group of white men
  • NASA’s “finest hour” of the wondrous rescue of the Apollo 13 astronauts was likewise achieved by a non-politically-correct team of white men

Other examples from history could as easily be cited, where people of a homogenous ethnic group worked together to achieve great things:

  • the British Empire, where Britian was a world leader for centuries, built up and maintained by white men (Britains)
  • early Rome (a homogenous ethnic group of Romans) — follow the history and you find that it was when the Romans brought in too much “diversity” (foreigners to do their work for them) that their problems increased

Jared Taylor couldn’t have said it better himself: “diversity (as in racial or gender) of itself does not provide any special advantages, any special talents, to a group working on a project.” Now why is this fact considered so outrageous today?

However, although “[o]ther examples from history could as easily be cited, where people of a homogeneous ethnic group worked together to achieve great things,” that “homogeneous ethnic group” is virtually always going to be white men. Which should tell us something about race, and about sex… something we’re not allowed to think…
